We had eight Pine Siskins pass through the yard yesterday. Here's one of them (on the left) sharing a birdfeeder with a Purple Finch.
This is about the earliest we've had Siskins in the yard and we hope they find adequate food (natural and/or provided) to stay the winter. Maybe they didn't come from that far away - we had a small group of Siskins at the feeders until late June. I was hoping they'd just stay to nest, but they were gone by early July.
Here's to a good winter finch year in upstate New York!
I love your stories, they're so well depicted with such great photography!
