ATTENTION

  • Our eyes and ears should be open and alert to the natural wonders that surround us every day. Take time to look out our windows to see the birds that visit us and open our windows to hear them. Walk around whatever space we have to enjoy the birds in nature. Every day, work on improving our powers of observation.

ACCEPTANCE

  • Nature happens. We cannot MAKE natural things happen (or NOT happen). We can create habitats to encourage natural things to happen around us, but there are no guarantees.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Birdfeeding comes with responsibilities to the birds and the environment we share with them. If you are unwilling to accept these responsibilities, you shouldn’t feed the birds. We also have a responsibility to share these natural wonders with the next generation.

Titmice Mouths to Feed

A loud and hungry titmouse family descended on my feeders in late August.  You met them in my August 26th "Tufted Titmouse Tots" post.

I spent the next few weeks taking photo after photo of this boisterous little clan.  Which means I have lots of catch-up work to do!

So I'll devote a couple posts this week sharing titmice photos from late August through September.  The noise has settled down a little, but they are STILL busy and growing up fast, like all birds do.

Larry - 16 titmice young - what a sight that must be! Haven't seen an Oak Titmouse before. Bet you they're as noisy as the tufties, are they?

Hey Nancy ...I love those little Titmice! I have the Oak Titmouse in my neck of the woods. We had 16 youngins hatch out this Spring and lots of them are still hanging around the feeders. They are so much fun to watch, especially at the suet feeder. Plus they are always singing up a storm. Nice photos!

Lana - yeah, kinda saying "find it yourself junior, I'm hungry too!"

I love that wing fluttering behavior. I also get a kick out of when the fledglings are getting older & the parents start to ignore it in an effort to make the young'ns go out & get a job, proverbially speaking.

LNMP - Thank you very much! That wing quiver sequence was my favorite too.

These are great pictures, Nancy! I love the "wing quiver" photos. I can just imagine the noise that the young titmouse is making!
