ATTENTION

  • Our eyes and ears should be open and alert to the natural wonders that surround us every day. Take time to look out our windows to see the birds that visit us and open our windows to hear them. Walk around whatever space we have to enjoy the birds in nature. Every day, work on improving our powers of observation.

ACCEPTANCE

  • Nature happens. We cannot MAKE natural things happen (or NOT happen). We can create habitats to encourage natural things to happen around us, but there are no guarantees.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Birdfeeding comes with responsibilities to the birds and the environment we share with them. If you are unwilling to accept these responsibilities, you shouldn’t feed the birds. We also have a responsibility to share these natural wonders with the next generation.

Hi Linda and welcome! The solar-powered fountain is available at some local Wild Birds Unlimited stores. LMK if you don't have a store near you.

linda

how fun...where can I get the solar powered thingy?

Kathie - I envy the diversity of hummingbirds you enjoy in AZ! AND the fact that they winter there! Thanks for visiting and for your comment.

My hummingbirds are just starting to show up down here in the Tucson area. I've had quite a few passing through on migration and I am busy trying to sort them all out. I've distinguished at least 4 or 5 species so far with Black-chinned, Costa's, Broad-billed and Anna's. I think I have had a Broad-tailed and a Rufous also. For me, hummingbird season is just beginnng! In the end, only the Costa's will be here for the winter.

Toni - and now that the hummingbird numbers really start to dwindle, it is especially appreciated!
Linda - ok, that's next on my list of things I want to see. But guess I'll have to wait until 2009.

Never seen hummers in our birdbaths but have seen them leaf bathing when we water. Linda S.

toni

That is so awesome!

Lana - just how cool? WAY cool. A once in a lifetime? Who knows??

Lana

How cool is THAT?

The Zen Birdfeeder

LNMP - I was so lucky to catch it!!
The solar-powered fountain is just something to be added to an existing bath. The dish should be deep enough to handle the daily evaporation, especially when it's really hot and dry. I can give you other hints & tips on using one.
WBU-Saratoga Springs usually has them in stock but we're out right now; email me if you want us to order one for you.

LNMP

Ooh, I am jealous!!! Most birds enjoy moving water. Is the solar-powered fountain something you can add to an existing bird bath? My bird bath is being used for drinking water, not bathing.
