Margaret - that's a pretty good roster!
Aunt B - To make sure the bath is "bathing friendly", it shouldn't be too deep (add a rock or slate if it is) and that the birds feel safe in it (no hiding spots for predators nearby).

Very nice captures! I rarely ever see anyone taking a bath in mine, only an occasional Robin or Mourning Dove. Guess mine are 'dirty birds'!

So far, we've had Purple Finch, Goldfinch, Blue Jay, Mourning Dove, Chickadee, Dark-Eyed Junco and (the highlight for me) Red-Breasted Nuthatch. (All just drinking, not bathing). The Purples were the first to find it.

LNMP - I have a solar-powered fountain in one and a dripper in another. I became a HUGE advocate of moving water when I installed these last year and my baths went crazy! Check out these two posts from last year:

Also, make sure your bath is not too deep. I put 2-3 pieces of slate in the middle of one to give the birds a place to stand.

I see robins, blue jays, mourning doves, and goldfinches drinking from the bird bath... but so far, none have actually used it for bathing. Do you have a sprayer or some kind of attachment to create moving water?

Aunt B - thanks. The white-throateds have been pretty numerous around here this spring.
