ATTENTION

  • Our eyes and ears should be open and alert to the natural wonders that surround us every day. Take time to look out our windows to see the birds that visit us and open our windows to hear them. Walk around whatever space we have to enjoy the birds in nature. Every day, work on improving our powers of observation.

ACCEPTANCE

  • Nature happens. We cannot MAKE natural things happen (or NOT happen). We can create habitats to encourage natural things to happen around us, but there are no guarantees.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Birdfeeding comes with responsibilities to the birds and the environment we share with them. If you are unwilling to accept these responsibilities, you shouldn’t feed the birds. We also have a responsibility to share these natural wonders with the next generation.

Larry - that's what I've heard too. Good thing I own the birdstore!

Larry

Very cool! I hear they can go through some serious seed.

The Zen Birdfeeder

Lana - glad you have more time for the birds now.
Lori and family - 54 Evening Grosbeaks-WOW!!! Please send pix!!! See you soon.

Here's an email from WBU friends in New Hampshire:
"Hello Friends in NY,
We have also had recent visitors in the form of evening grosbeaks. On Friday, we counted an awesome 54 grosbeaks followed by 11 on Saturday and finally 9 on Sunday. We also have a large number of gold, purple, and house finches. We really enjoy this year's large downy and hairy woodpecker counts daily as well.
Lori, Jared, Jessica, and Gregg"

Lana

No, actually, I've never seen one. I didn't have as much time for birding when I was in Canada, unfortunately.

The Zen Birdfeeder

Mon@rch - I hope we're not disappointed with all this buildup!
Lana - thanks, glad you like it. Did you see them when you were in Canada?
Veery - looks like they winter in your neck of the woods. Maybe this year, as good as it seems to be shaping up!

Veery

That would be great! I love Evening Grosbeaks, but I have never seen one.

Lana

Personally I LIKE the effect of the sunny window on the picture. Congrats on the nice, big group! I've never seen them in my neck of the woods...yet, anyway.

mon@rch

So many! WOW . . . this is going to be such a great winter!
