Another bald Blue Jay at the feeders the other day. Here's some facts from Cornell Lab of Ornithology about bald birds.

Anne - thanks for commenting. Last year, I'd estimate that 1/2 of the jays had some level of head baldness. This year, quite a few but not nearly as many.
It DOES grow back. In a few weeks, you'll forget they looked as bad as they did.

I have several bald blue jays (12 or so) coming to my feeder along with several bald cardinals (5 or 6). I have read that this could be a normal molting process (it is August 30th) but it is rare to see them lose all their feathers at once, especially in so many birds. I will try to take a photo and monitor their recovery as it goes.
