ATTENTION

  • Our eyes and ears should be open and alert to the natural wonders that surround us every day. Take time to look out our windows to see the birds that visit us and open our windows to hear them. Walk around whatever space we have to enjoy the birds in nature. Every day, work on improving our powers of observation.

ACCEPTANCE

  • Nature happens. We cannot MAKE natural things happen (or NOT happen). We can create habitats to encourage natural things to happen around us, but there are no guarantees.

RESPONSIBILITY

  • Birdfeeding comes with responsibilities to the birds and the environment we share with them. If you are unwilling to accept these responsibilities, you shouldn’t feed the birds. We also have a responsibility to share these natural wonders with the next generation.

Eight Random Facts

I've been tagged by Delia of Beginning to Bird to share my Eight Random Facts.

Here are the rules for Eight Random Facts:

Players start with eight random facts/habits about themselves.

People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
At the end of your blog, you need to choose eight people to get tagged and list their names.
Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

And here are the eight random facts:

1. Believe it or not, I was born and raised in a town called Hometown, Illinois.

2. Since leaving my corporate job last year, I have taken up the ukulele.  Cal at The Hawaiian Ukulele Company set me up with a great uke. If you visit Oahu, stop by his store in the Aloha Tower.

3. I am an avid public radio listener, taking in WAMC Northeast Public Radio whenever I can, even if by podcast.  Wild Birds Unlimited - Saratoga Springs is a WAMC underwriter.

4. I am hooked on listening to podcasts. Favorite podcasts are Fresh Air, Marketplace Money, Washington Week with Gwen Ifill, BEEKS A Birding Geek, and WAMC's Roundtable
and Legislative Gazette
.

5. I am a Chicago Cubs fan.  Never question a Cubs fan's ability to be loyal.

6. I climbed Mount St. Helens, post-eruption, in 1989.

7. I swam competitively in high school and college, in the early days following Title IX.

8. I enjoy yoga, done at home, in private, taught one-on-one by Rodney Yee (okay, taught by one of his DVDs).  Namaste.

I'm having trouble finding 8 bloggers to tag, so I'll start with these three:

Andrew Acomb (who got me started blogging)
Fun Saratoga
Andy Wolfe (a newly discovered blog for me)

Additional tag to Marty Bird of Technology, Marketing & Birds (another WBU-er)
